The 7th Street Public Market offers a little something for everyone (even vegans), from local fruits and veggies to locally made treats, sushi, coffee, pizza, flowers, wine and more. If you haven’t been to the 7th Street Market in Uptown, you’re missing out on a pretty vegan-friendly stop (just avoid the butcher along the back wall). Vegans can grab a juice from Viva Raw, a vegan pizza from Pure Pizza and some amazing vegan cupcakes from Novel Sweets. I’m sure there’s more vegan options hiding throughout the market, but those are a great place to start. Rumor has it (Yelp confirms) that people love Not Just Coffee and they offer both almond and soy milk.
Even stumbled upon a vegan freezer section on my way back from the bathroom. Products from Golden Green Vegan
I used to avoid coming here thinking it would be a pain to find a parking spot and why would I want to pay to park. Fortunately, the market validates up to 90 minutes in the parking garage. Remember to take your ticket and validate it before you leave. It is also conveniently located at the last stop on the Lynx blue line at the 7th Street Station.
Vegan Pizza lover’s Rejoice! After a 3 year absence in Charlotte, Mellow Mushroom has returned with a BRAND NEW location at 2820 Selwyn Avenue near Colony.
If you’ve never had Mellow Mushroom, expect a laid-back, relaxed atmosphere. The food is fantastic, and many Atlantians and Athens, GS residents SWEAR by Mellow Pizza. They are very accomodating to Vegans, offering Daiya Vegan Cheese, TONS of Fresh Veggie Toppings, Tofu, and Tempeh! There are a few subs, including a Tempeh Sub, that are great as well! They even have fresh made pretzels with marinara! YUM!

Recently one of our readers, Jenna D, recently noticed a new in-store menu at Brixx Pizza locations in the Charlotte area. Listed on the menu where describing the crust, HONEY was listed as an ingredient! SHOCKING as we all know Honey is a big NO-NO for us vegans. Jenna reached out to Brixx Corporate to confirm whether the crust did contain Honey, and got the following response…
“We are reprinting the menus now and all stores should be returning to making pizza dough with a little sugar and no honey! Check with the manager before eating if you go in this week to be certain they are following the new recipe.
Thanks for your comments,
Jeff Van Dyke
Brixx Wood Fired Pizza”
So, BE SURE TO CONFIRM WITH THE LOCATION IF THEY ARE EXCLUDING HONEY BEFORE CHOMPING DOWN!!!!
Thank you to Jeff and Brixx Pizza for being extra-loving to the vegan population, and quickly listening and responding to inquiries, and for offering VEGAN CHEESE!.
Extra special THANK YOU to Jenna D for putting the footwork in to get this issue resolved quickly.

As reported this morning in the Charlotte Observer
“Mellow Mushroom returns. Pizzeria Mellow Mushroom is re-entering the Charlotte market, having leased 5,740 square feet in Tranquil Court on Selwyn, a mixed-use development in Myers Park. The eatery, which departed the Charlotte market two years ago, plans to open in early summer.”
Thumbs up to Vegan-Friendly sandwiches and pizza!
