Go Max Go! Bars in Food Lion/Bloom stores soon !

salvation for vegan charloteeans who crave (and miss) the unhealthy, but delicious candy bars of our childhood.

Go Max Go, the company behind the decedent line of Vegan candy bars, are now selling them at Food Lion and Bloom groceries.

Not sure if they are actually in stores as of yet, but look for them soon.

from their site “We set out to create extraordinarily delicious candy bars. We craved candy bars that were chocolatey, nougaty, caramely, peanutty, almondy, coconutty crazy indulgences! We wanted a variety of bars that popped with all the luscious flavor of the traditional treats. What we didn’t want in our candy bars was dairy, eggs, hydrogenated oils, trans fats, artificial ingredients, or cholesterol. We had a hunch your sweet tooth might be feeling the same way, and so we went to work on the concept. Happily, our efforts paid off and now even your inner angel (you know, the one who reminds you it’s gotta be vegan, or you’re dairy intolerant, or you need to kick those hydrogenated oils to the curb, etc.) can enjoy real candy bars again.

Combine great taste, good sense, sweeten with compassion, and what have you got? A Go Max Go candy bar! Our journey, over a year in the making, has finally brought to life the best tasting natural candy bars ever! We are pleased to offer to you the finest vegan versions of the candy bars you grew up with. Make room for the NEW classics.

Go Max Go Foods. Your taste buds will never know the difference.

Help with preventing Puppy Mills in Charlotte

recently this came through the Veg-Charlotte Meetup Message Board (http://vegetarian.meetup.com/456/)

My name is Ray i am co founder of Guardians of Animals we are a
non-profit that does investigations for some of the nations
largest animals right/welfare groups. Several months ago our
board decided to also do public education campaigns. We are
currently working in the Charlotte Moorseville area to stop
puppy mill animal from being sold. We are seeking like minded
people to assist with “peaceful and legal public
demonstrations” to raise awareness about puppy mills and
promote pet adoption. We intend to begin demonstrations by
september. We have completed most of our research into the
puppy mills who supply many of the local pet shops. Once we
begin the demonstrations we will need volunteers who can assist
by coming out 1 or 2 hours a week to show there support for
animals. We have a meetup planned august the 1st if you would
like to come. I have attached our youtube channel link, meetup
link, and weblink. If you would be so kind as to send this out
to your meetup group i would be greatful.

Thanks

Ray

Restaurant Spotlight: The Counter Custom Burgers

This week’s Restaurant Spotlight focuses on the great american staple on summer menus: The Burger. More specifically, the Veggie Burger. We are lucky to have a location of The Counter Custom Burgers here in Charlotte outside of Southpark Mall on Sharon Road, and they have arguably one of the best vegan friendly veggie burgers in Charlotte.

Veggie Burger with grilled onions, etc.The burger mixture is handmade daily at the restaurant, and are made with a brown rice and wheat base mixed with cranberries, carrots, black beans, roasted red peppers and spinach. The buns are probably not vegan, so you can opt to have the burger served on a bed of lettuce instead, or bring your own bun and ask for them to leave theirs off! The burgers come in 1 size, but you can opt to order it in 3 sizes, each size increasing the amount of “patties” on each sandwich. BE CAREFUL and bring your appetite if you attempt a size larger than the smallest one, as they are MASSIVE alone. You can choose four of 17 toppings ranging from your basic lettuce and tomatoes to the more exotic dried cranberries, grilled pineapple or roasted red peppers; and one of 17 sauces  (the vegan sauces are: Apricot Sauce, Homemade Guacamole, Peanut Sauce, Red Relish, Roasted Corn & Black Bean Salsa, Soy Ginger Glaze, Sun-Dried Tomato Vinaigrette, & Sweet BBQ, plus Mustard & Ketchup).  It’s almost too hard to decide what to top your burger with considering all the choices. The burgers are very loose and crumble off the base easily, encouraging the use of a fork! They are moist and very flavorful, without being too overpowering in one taste or another. You can also match your burger with fries, sweet potato fries, or onion strings, or a “hobo pack” which is a nice pack of seasonal veggies and herbs, grilled in foil, totally vegan. countercharlotte1

The Counter, Charlotte has a outdoor patio, or indoor seating, and is located outside of Southpark Mall at the corner of Sharon Road and Morrison Blvd.  Open at 11am until 10 Monday-Thursday & Sunday, and till 11pm Friday & Saturday.

The restaurant is moderately priced. A typical meal for two, including beverages, could top $40. So be aware of that. Trust us, it’s worth it.

Add them on twitter @thecounterqc for weekly specials that are Twitter exclusives! You can visit the website http://www.thecounterburger.com/charlotte/ for a downloadable order form, and more info.

Restaurant Spotlight: Common Market Deli

Common Market - Plaza Midwood

Common Market - Plaza Midwood - ph James Willamor

Common Market Charlotte is a great VEGAN friendly spot with a lunchtime Deli at both the original Plaza Midwood location at 2007 Commonwelth Avenue , and the NEW location in Southend at 1515 South Tryon Street.

The deli has several veggie sandwich options, which can include TofuLin smoked tofu slices, Veganaise, and can be grilled on a panini with no butter at request. Their breads like sourdough, deli rye, white, 9-grain, and wraps are all Vegan. Load the fresh veggies on, as they have a huge selection of fresh options for your creation. Add some spreads like olive tapenade, hummus, & sun dried tomato. The staff is vegan friendly and really helpful.  The deli always has homemade hummus, lots of tofu salads to go, and random awesome goodies like BBQ Tofu and vegan veggie pate, as well as lots of pre-made sandwiches available after hours.

On thursday thru sat nights the deli offers Tofurkey Brats with all the good toppings for your munchie cravings. While you are there, enjoy a cold domestic beer on the patio, check out this site on the free wifi, or enjoy the awesome surroundings outside.

Parking around the Plaza Midwood location can be tricky, but be aware of a parking lot BEHIND the store accessable by the driveway on the right of the building, as well as beside the post office on The Plaza. DON”T PARK AT THE SALON NEXT TO COMMON MARKET as they do tow cars!!! parking on the street is available at the Southend location.
